HUMAN TRAFFICKED VICTIMS FACE:
TESTING ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
Abstract
Human Trafficking has been going on for many years. The “modern day slavery” is the act of forced labor, sexual explotiation, and sex trade. Deprivement of rights such as food, shelter, clothes. Some are housed in the back of trucks, while others have minor little beds with little to no sheets and blankets. There is no stopping of trafficking anytime soon because the people in power are partners with the ring leaders and some are the top clientele. Anyone can be a trafficking victim regardless of age and sex. Most if not all, will suffer traumatizing events within the cycle and will shape how they live the rest of their life.

Human Trafficking has been an ongoing issues for many years. Over the course of time, it has become a known awareness that more people are becoming concerned with. At the rising rate of the cirumstances, any particular indivual regarldess of age, race, or sex could be a victim. Human Trafficking is the trade of humans for the purpose of forced labour, sexual slavery, or commerical sexual explotiation for traffickers or clientale. Human Trafficking may involve women and children but is not limitted to men and boys. However, this particular black market may not involve relocating indiuvals from one place to another for intended purposes.To the average eye, most people think that women are vulnerable. Thus this is true, some are forced into this life. Seeking new lifestyles, fresh starts, or simply running from their past.
How does an individual become a victim of Human Trafficking? Who are these individuals?
Why is it harder for them to get out?
Human Traffickers have located victims in all cities throughout the United States. Victims of trafficking can be both younger than and older than 18 years of age. These individuals are being tricked, coerced, and or sometimes forced into comercial sex along with labor and services. To the world, the victims are, “young dumb girls” that have typically been drugged or just simply kidnapped. However, it is more than just girls, it is women, boys, and men too. Recruitment staff targets different ages, poverty, unemployment, sexual abuse, police corruption, and high crime rates. Police Corruption is a huge issue across the country. Often times, when you have police officers involved with Human Trafficking. Not only do they know about it and are not doing anything, you will find that these are the same officers that are the clientele and for some, they are partners with the ring leaders making extra money for what one would consider “dirty proffits”. Thus this is sad but true, the cycle continues to circle around because the people in power continue to rule.

What are the lifestyles that make an individual vulnerable to Human Trafficking?
Trafficking reports show that individuals are lured into these lifestyles thinking they are visiting new countries for better lives. The top 3 states according to the Department of States are California, New York, and Texas. Most individuals are coming from very poor communities thinking they are going to a new country where they can potentially be rich. For many this is not the case. They leave thinking they will return to their families and some do but some never. Though very unfortunate, many are not as strong as others to escape without fear of being caught and potentially killed.

What are the mental challenges these victims suffer from?
Human Traffick involvement is a very traumatizing experience. Most of these individuals are deprived of their basic human rights such as food and proper clothing. They are drugged daily and are forced to have sex with hundreds of men that they do not even know. Sometimes these indiuvals get beat on when they do not want to cooperate and wind up being assaulted physically, mental, and emotionally.

Is there such a thing as too young or too old for an individual to be trafficked?
There is no such thing as too young or too old. Very rarely, the youngest are born into this system. They are sometimes given up to Child Protective Services and other times they grow and become individuals of the system.

What are the lifestyles that make an individual become vulnerable to human trafficking?
Do trafficking victims ever benefit from their transactions or is it simply exploiting solicitation?
“Individuals from poor backgrounds are more vulnerable to human trafficking.” The background that a victim resides from is important because it is the only variable that can be manipulated to determine if Human Trafficking will be able to maintain and flow amongst indivuals of certain enviroments. Hoping to answer if environmental factors are primary causations for why individuals become victims of Trafficking.
Human Trafficking vulunerability is the depednent variable in the case because it allows the measuremnet of the indivuals background. We will find that not all the time do these particular individuals come from impoverished communities. Ultimately concluding, that some may actually come from rich and wealthy communities and just ended up kidnapped. While others think they are going to start new journeys within their life.
Human Trafficking is the control variable because it will never change, Regardless of the background, the final product is Trafficking. We will find that the different circumstances may lead to the ultimate goal. Some of the circumstances may be seen and some definitely unforeseen.
I plan to use the experimental and comparison group research design method. This method will allow me to use two groups of individuals of similar backgrounds. My experiment group will be strictly victims of Human Trafficking. The comparison group will be individuals who have dealt with traumatic events such as rape, sexual assault, or have watched someone experice one of the few. I will use Quasi Experimental Design to show the type of environments along with the traumatic events that individuals suffer from post assault or hostile environments. My design will be two groups of indiuvals. Group A will be my group of individuals who were straight victims of human trafficking vs Group B with indivuals who have dealt with assualt such as rape, abuse, or have witnessed it infront of their eyes. This is a good idea because not only will I be able to compare the different backgrounds, I will also be able to look into the traumatic stipulations each individual has encountered. Possibly looking into the coping mechanism available.
I am going to be looking into the rich and privileged population, where you have individuals who are given everything and do what they want. Such as partying, drugs, curfew breakers. How the majority of these individuals are taken advantage of because they are out late, and sometimes are too weak and vulnerable to defend themselves. How they also ended up drugged on top of the substance abuse and half the time they won’t even remember what happened prior to them being held hostage. Then I will use the poor and poverty population to look at the individuals who are desperate to find and start a new lifestyle for themselves and or their family. To show how they thought they were going to a nice job and ended up abused and drugged.
Some of the ethical decisions to be considered associated with my proposal are rape victims, and indivuals who suffered from family violence. Also those who observed indivuals of their family sexually assualted with nothing to do about it.
